With the rise of pickleball in Australia, we are seeing more and more courts being developed across the country. In particular, pickleball courts are being developed or converted from tennis courts in areas which is surrounding by residents and community. This is fantastic for the growth of pickleball, as we do need courts in both industrial and residential areas for continued surge of the sport. However, this does pose an issue from the sound that is emitted from the ball.
People who live near by busy courts experience 90 hours per week, which equals 100,000 "THWAKS" or "POPS" as the sound is described each week, a level that for some causes sleep and stress issues.
Bobby Riggs Racket & Paddle Club in California has been hit with city code violations for noise issues emitted from pickleball. In response to this, the club has agreed to install sound barriers to ensure the courts stay open. The owners of the club estimate the installation of the sound barrier walls to cost anywhere from $50,000-$200,000 USD!
